Subtitles?!

Just today I remembered again that I must add subtitles to my video because it is in Spanish, so of course I had to do some research and talk about it to you.

I started by looking up “easy ways of adding subtitles to a film” and I found this video from VEED STUDIO on YouTube. This guy explained an easy way of adding subtitles by using the website of Veed.io. The video explains step by step starting with the free creation of an account to the editing of the lyrics or subtitles automatically added once you upload and select the language of the video. I found it incredibly easy. Yet, I noticed that for doing this I must have the full video complete and completely edited to download it and then add the subtitles. So it would now be the last thing to do, as before it was the voiceover which I’m going to do this coming week with my brother.

Meanwhile, I still wanted to be ready to know how to add subtitles to this video and not struggle much when doing so. So, I decided to keep researching and trying my research with other short videos to see how easy it is or what I need to do more research. I received a YouTube recommendation to watch this tutorial from Nino Perez after finishing the other video. This tutorial of Stop Writing Captions Manually | AUTOMATIC Subtitle Tutorial [All Tools] was more effective as I noticed on the front cover, that the logo of Premiere Rush was shown, with some others. As I am using that app to edit, I found it more effective. Yet, while watching the video and skipping to the part where it explains how to add subtitles quickly and easily in Premiere Rush, I noticed that it would only work on the computer and I was editing on my phone. So, I went ahead and tried doing it on the phone by clinking a bunch of random buttons and noticing what they do. None of them worked for this purpose. The other option that I had was to send the video back to my laptop when it was finished and edit it there. I have the full spring break for this, so I'm not that worried. I do want to finish editing and have it ready just in case though.

The next thing I tried with this research was using a random video in my gallery where someone would be talking in Spanish so that I could translate it into English. I used the recommended website in the first video and you can see a picture of the process here. The first thing I received from this website once I created my account was a free tutorial of basic commands to add several things and edit things like the style of the subtitles or the transitions from the video. A moment of realization that I had here was that I noticed that no matter what app you do it with if it had a computer version, it will always be better. So if I was using this website on the phone it is most probable that some little things that will cost me money on the phone, won't if I do it on the laptop. I suppose it is some strategy from the company to get more people to use the website or application. I knew about some other applications like games and others but I didn’t think this type of medium included it too.

Once I uploaded the video, I was a bit worried as I noticed that there was no sound and this was needed to synchronize the subtitles with the action or mouth coordination. Although I moved and tapped a bunch of buttons from the audio, subtitles, settings, media, and other commands, none of them worked to add audio. Then I tried not paying attention to it and see if at the end it would work after I had the subtitles ready, but it was impossible to add and know what I was putting in the subtitles if I couldn’t listen to the words said. It was just too complicated and not worth it so I decided to try doing them on my own Premiere Rush app in the computer to see if I can simply send them to me later. Besides, I could just follow the steps from Nino’s video as it was an explanation step by step on the computer. I noticed that I’ve been doing my film in the Premiere Rush PREMIUM plan! Yet it is not much of a problem as the only time I would be charged for it would be when exporting the video and not even because once you click the button to see the trials to upgrade your plan, a small message in the bottom says “Billing begins when your free trial ends. Cancel before your free trial ends and you won’t be charged. Subscription automatically renews until you cancel. Cancel anytime in your Apple ID settings.” This means that during the 3-day free trial, I can export the video and have it without paying any money. So that is what I am planning to do if the school account doesn’t apply for this upgrade.

Yet, I decided to still try with another video on the computer and be ready for next time. I re-watched the video and followed it exactly as it told me to do so and I had no problem. I tried with several different uploaded videos and it was easier than what it looks like. I did not expect that. I am ready now. I noticed every little detail that I could edit and change. I must recommend doing everything said in the video because one has to follow many commands that I wouldn’t even have known existed if the video hadn’t said so. So yeah, I’m so excited to be almost done keep yourself updated for the post to see how I am editing the last parts of the video. I hope you had a good weekend and be ready for the next one and my next posts!!!
